Migrating your fleet's proxy configuration

This guide walks you through safely updating the proxy settings of your Cenareo players, whether you are migrating to a new server or adding a configuration for the first time.

Introduction and Prerequisites

  • What is it for? This procedure routes your players' HTTP/HTTPS traffic through a corporate proxy server without interrupting content playback.

  • Why is it useful? To ensure compliance with your network security policies while maintaining a stable connection to the Cenareo platform.

Step 1: Preparing the network configuration table

To manage the migration efficiently, first organize your management interface.

  1. Log in to your Cenareo Dashboard.

  2. In the left menu, click on Fleet and then Network configuration.

  3. Click Manage my preset (gear icon at the top right).

  4. Check the City and Address columns, then save your preset.

Step 2: Filtering players by address

  1. Identify a specific site address in the table.

  2. In the Address column search field, enter the address of the site to be migrated.

  3. If updating an existing proxy, filter the Proxy column with your OLD URL to see only the players remaining to be migrated.

Step 3: Testing migration with one player (Pilot Phase)

  1. Select one single player (prefer Ethernet over Wi-Fi if possible).

  2. Click the Edit network configuration icon (gear next to the player's name).

  3. In the Proxy field, enter your new URL (e.g., http://proxy.example.com:8080/).

  4. Click Confirm and wait 15 minutes for the player to synchronize.

  5. Check that the status is Connected (green dot) and content is displaying on the screen.

Step 4: Testing migration with ten players

  1. Keep your filters and select 9 more players on the same site.

  2. Click the Smart Edit button. (✏️icon, in the upper left)

  3. Select the Proxy field and enter the new URL.

  4. Enter the number of players to modify in the confirmation field and confirm.

  5. After 15 minutes, verify that at least 90% of the players (9 out of 10) are online with the new configuration

Step 5: Migrating all remaining players on the site

If your tests are successful, you can finalize the site.

  1. Select all remaining players for this site (maximum 100 per operation).

  2. Use the Smart Edit tool again to apply the new proxy URL.

  3. Wait 15 to 30 minutes for the final synchronization.

  4. Success Criteria: The site is considered migrated if at least 95% of players are connected.

Best Practices

  • Business Hours: Migrate during business hours so support is available if needed.

  • Schedule: Avoid Friday deployments to prevent leaving an issue unattended over the weekend.

  • Caution: Never move to the next step if a test fails. Stop and investigate the configuration.

  • Format: Double-check your proxy URL before confirming: a simple typo can disconnect your players.
